Coley Branch

Coley Branch Opened in May 1908 due to congestion in Readings goods yards, and the problems of carting goods through the busy town centre. Factorys sprang up around the yard with their own private sidings and the yard thrived, but inevitably freight traffic dwindled by the mid 50s. It is now 1963 Goods Traffic is still enough to justify the branch remaining open and most of the factories still serve the railways, but things are changing; new housing estates are popping up at Southcote and Coley and diesel is gradually replacing steam.
