Dalmunzie - Glenlochsie

Original work by Vern rebuilt by tmz06003 with permission. Vern's route shows what the line could be like if it was reopened in the future wheras this rebuild depicts it in the condition of it's operation between 1922 and 1978. The railway conveyed guests from the Dalmunzie hotel to Glenlochsie Lodge, 2.5 miles west of Dalmunzie. Dalmunzie had additional facilities of a two road engine shed and another siding serving a fuel store and game larder. The line was built to 2ft 6in gauge, but due to no suitable locomotive being available, it is represented here at 2ft gauge. The line is steeply graded and gains additional height by means of a double reversal 'zig Zag' formation 1 mile west of Dalmunzie. Interestingly, concrete sleepers were used in construction of the more exposed parts of the line, surely an innovation for 1920's narrow gauge railway engineering. This is modelled with the use of concrete sleepered track on the higher section of the line, kindly produced by clam1952 along with other suitable tracks for the routes. Glenlochsie has a short platform and reversal siding to release the locomotive. Thanks to nawlins for his input and help with the project also and Alex Winton for help in locating the water pump siding.

For anyone interested a downloadable book containing many fascinating details of the railway can be found here:
